A BALLYMENA based firm has secured a contract to supply its range of gluten-free products to Asda stores in Northern Ireland.
Moditions Bakery will provide its jam and coconut cake, sticky tealoaf fruitcake, gingerbread cake, coffee cake and an Irish soda bread mix.
The company was started by Christine Shaw who wanted to create great tasting gluten-free cakes using treasured family recipes.
Motivated by her husband the business has grown in the last two years from Christine's kitchen to a dedicated gluten-free production unit just outside Galgorm.
"Our recipes weren't technically developed to answer a call for gluten-free products," she said.
"They were created by gently tweaking and changing old family recipes over the years to make them gluten free for my husband who is coeliac – and the business developed from there. We source all our ingredients locally where possible and everything is made by hand in small batches by our team.
"The business we have secured with Asda has been invaluable - helping to propel Moditions from a home-based operation, to a recognised commercially viable enterprise supplying major supermarkets. I have been blown away by the support, professionalism and friendliness of the Asda team - their knowledge of the Free From sector and consumer needs is second to none. I am really looking forward to developing the relationship with Asda as we continue to add to our product range."
Susanna Hassard from Asda NI's local sourcing team added: "We're delighted to welcome Moditions to the Asda family. Our ethos is grounded in supporting local producers - throughout NI's Year of Food & Drink and beyond – and our new contract with Moditions reflects this.
"There is an increasing demand for gluten free products from our customers and to be able to offer a top quality - and good value gluten free range from a local company is fantastic."
