A UK co-working space provider has announced it is expanding into Northern Ireland.

Headspace Group is to expand its UK footprint with a new space in Belfast's Adelaide Exchange - its fifth location and first foray across the Irish Sea.

The boutique operator will occupy 20,000 sq ft space as part of a deal led by sister company BESpoke, BE Offices’ managed workspace division, to acquire and develop customised space for a global advisory firm.

Adelaide Exchange on Adelaide Street is currently undergoing a 14-week refurbishment as part of the development of the new co-working space.

The new space will be developed as a hub for Belfast’s tech, media and creative communities, equipped to a high specification and with a dedicated on-site team responsible for curating social and business events for members, ranging from panel discussions and workshops to yoga and social events.

Fabrizio Nicola-Giordano, managing director of Headspace Group said they are excited about the new Belfast space.

“Belfast has a reputation as a home for innovative, fast growing businesses, which is very much in line with what Headspace is known for. We’re hugely excited about this move and we’re looking forward to creating a vibrant, inspiring and collaborative space for the city’s most dynamic businesses.”

The Belfast acquisition expands the Headspace portfolio to five and adds to existing locations in London’s Farringdon and Marylebone, Manchester and the soon to open Birmingham site. The group has also confirmed that further locations will be confirmed before the end of the year.

Headspace Group was acquired by flexible workspace provider BE Offices in 2017 and has announced its intention to expand the Headspace brand to as many as 20 spaces in the coming years. The boutique operator counts an array of businesses - from freelancers and startups to tech unicorns and PLCs - amongst its membership base.

The entry of Headspace to the growing local market comes just weeks after Oremeau Baths announced plans for a £1 million expansion.

The entrepreneurial workspace which supports indigenous tech start-ups, plans to double in size to 17,000 sq ft by taking the second half of the former Victorian Bathhouse building in which it opened just over a year ago.

Since opening in July 2017 it has had more than 16,000 people pass through, and more than 500 events have been held in the purpose-built event space, ranging from white hat hacker gatherings to product tank meet-ups and pitch contests.
