One of Belfast’s most unique residential development sites has just gone on the market.
The 3.2 acre site in question, on the market from Simon Brien, is located in a prime residential area on the Antrim Road. It’s just on the foothills of Belfast Castle with the centrepiece a listed former Chapel dating back to mid 1800s. The former Chapel of the Resurrection is steeped in history and is a landmark building within north Belfast.
The third Marquis of Donegal built the former Chapel as a memorial to his son Frederick Richard, the Earl of Belfast, and works were completed in 1869. Following the First World War, the ownership of the Chapel was transferred to the Church of Ireland in 1938 and was named the ‘Chapel of the Resurrection’. In the late 1980s the Chapel was sold and acquired by the current property owner, who carried out significant renovation works, in conjunction with NIEA, to prevent any deterioration of the building fabric.
The site is set amongst established mature housing on elevated lands enjoying stunning views across Belfast Lough and beyond. Meanwhile within the immediate area are attractions such as Belfast Castle, Cavehill Country Park, Belfast Zoo and Fortwilliam Golf Club.
Selling agent, Shane Maguire from Simon Brien Residential said:
“The sale of the landmark former Chapel of the Resurrection with development lands at Antrim Road represents a superb opportunity to acquire an iconic local building with zoned housing lands in a highly sought after residential location in north Belfast.
“With ongoing improvements in the Northern Ireland housing market, in particular demand for new build homes, interest is expected to be exceptionally strong and this unique development opportunity is anticipated to appeal to a wide range of house builders.”
