Sumptuous royal shows will go head to head at the TV Choice Awards, where The Crown will take on Victoria to be named best new drama.
The expensive Netflix series, starring Claire Foy as Queen Elizabeth II, will compete with ITV’s production about the young Queen Victoria, starring Jenna Coleman, as well as The Good Karma Hospital and Little Boy Blue.
Police dramas Broadchurch and Line Of Duty will face off with Our Girl and Poldark to be named best drama series, while Call The Midwife, Casualty, Doctor Who and The Durrells are all nominated for the best family drama prize.
In the best entertainment show category, All Round To Mrs Brown’s is nominated alongside Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway, Celebrity Juice and The Graham Norton Show, while DIY: SOS: The Big Build will compete with Gogglebox, Long Lost Family and Tattoo Fixers for the best lifestyle show gong.
The final series of The Great British Bake Off to air on the BBC is nominated for best talent show, alongside Britain’s Got Talent, MasterChef and Strictly Come Dancing, while Benidorm, The Big Bang Theory, Modern Family and Peter Kay’s Car Share are up for best comedy.
In the acting categories Sherlock’s Benedict Cumberbatch will go head to head with Poldark star Aidan Turner, as well as Broadchurch’s David Tennant and Casualty’s George Rainsford, for the best actor gong, while Tennant’s co-star Olivia Colman will compete with Poldark’s Eleanor Tomlinson, Our Girls’ Michelle Keegan and Casualty’s Amanda Mealing for best actress.
Stars of the soaps will not be left out, with EastEnders’ Danny Dyer taking on Emmerdale’s John Middleton, Danny Miller and Ryan Hawley for best soap actor, while Coronation Street’s Lucy Fallon and Kym Marsh will vie with EastEnders star Jasmine Armfield and Emmerdale’s Charlotte Bellamy for best soap actress.
Coronation Street, EastEnders, Emmerdale and Hollyoaks are all nominated for best soap.
The TV Choice Awards will be presented by Pointless star Richard Osman at The Dorchester on September 4.
