One of Ulster’s best known GAA stars has urged the public to attend a meeting to highlight 300 days of Israeli attacks in Gaza that have claimed the lives of around 40,000 people.
Former All-Ireland winner Niall Morgan spoke out this week ahead of the grim milestone.
Thousands of Palestinian woman and children are among those killed since Israel launched its military campaign last October after around 1,200 people were killed during a Hamas-led attack inside Israeli territory, during which around 200 hostages were taken.
Israeli authorities have refused to call a permanent halt to its campaign despite international pressure.
Many GAA members have added their voice calls for an immediate end to the bloodshed with both the association’s leadership and Gaelic Players Association backing calls for a ceasefire on humanitarian grounds.
Campaign group Gaels Against Genocide has previously called for an end to the Israeli onslaught.
Now the Tyrone Gaels Against Genocide group has organised a special talk at the Garvaghy Centre on Saturday evening to highlight the plight of the Palestinian people.
In a video message Mr Morgan, who won an All-Ireland title with is county in 2021, urged Gaels across Tyrone to attend the talk at 8pm.
“The start of August will mark 300 days of genocide in Gaza and hopefully a ceasefire from both parties will come very soon end the atrocities that are going on,” he said.
“Hopefully you can attend, and Tyrone Gaels will come out and support this meeting.”
Meanwhile, a ‘plant a tree for Palestine’ event will take place in the Centenary Garden in Camlough, south Armagh, at 11am on Saturday.
