The Terminator
WITH the release of the new Terminator film now imminent, it's time to re-watch James Cameron's masterful 1984 original – back in cinemas this weekend for a limited run in freshly remastered form.
Sure, you've seen it on VHS/TV/DVD a million times, but last year's 30th anniversary screenings proved that there's nothing quite like experiencing this low-budget action/horror classic on the big screen with the gunshots, explosions and Brad Fiedel's now iconic electronic score booming out of the house speakers at an appropriately apocalyptic volume.
In what remains the finest entry in an increasingly absurd film franchise, Arnold Schwarzenegger gives his finest 'less is more' performance as an unstoppable time-travelling killing machine on the trail of waitress/mother-of-the-future, Linda Hamilton.
While the forthcoming Terminator: Genysis promises to ignore the previous pair of largely lamentable Terminator flicks to offer a 'proper' follow-up to Cameron's own sequel Terminator 2: Judgement Day, only time will tell if Arnie and co can adequately atone for past sins.
In the meantime, the battle for the future begins again in our present – tomorrow night.
