FOLKTOWN Market in Belfast city centre is hosting its inaugural Folk Festival tomorrow, bringing a selection of multi-ethnic music and dance to its regular site at Bank Square (behind Primark).

Folk at Folktown will see four different acts performing in the Square during the day including Belfast-based African folk band Afresh, plus gigs and traditional sessions in local bars throughout the evening: Kelly's Cellars (4pm to 7pm), Cosgrove's (from 7pm) and Madden's Bar (from 9.30pm).

There will be a preview of the annual Belfast Mela in the form of Indian dancing from the Artsekta dancers, as well as a mini market offering visitors a taste of what's on offer at the regular Thursday Folktown Market.

Event organiser and Belfast musician Joby Fox is encouraging everyone to come along and enjoy the music and atmosphere.

"The event is free," he says. "Come and have a look around this emerging new cultural quarter, which is bringing life to one of our forgotten spaces.

"It is going to be a fantastic day, with some of our most exciting folk bands reflecting our changing city."
