HIGH-Rise director Ben Wheatley's new bloody siege thriller Free Fire stars Irish talents Cillian Murphy and Wheatley regular Michael Smiley as two IRA men who start wishing they could embrace the old joke about 'I Ran Away' when their arms deal at a Boston warehouse goes very badly wrong.
A manic 12-way shoot out ensues, which should ensure plenty of perforated corpses by time Free Fire's explosive 90 minutes are up – though the 1970s-set film (which also stars Brie Larson, Armie Hammer and Sharlto Copley) was partly inspired by a magazine report on how hard it is to actually shoot someone in a gunfight, so perhaps some miraculous close-quarters misses a la Police Squad! will help to lighten the mood slightly.
Wheatley will be repeating High-Rise's well received Q&A tour of independent cinemas for the release for his latest flick, including a return visit to the QFT.
Thus, those planning on attending should ensure they come packing a full clip of explosive-tipped questions to blast the director with once the film is over – especially if you want to snag some of the exclusive Free Fire-branded swag he'll no doubt be touting.
