HE WANTS your clothes, your boots and your motorcycle – again: yes, Arnie's most famous cinematic character is returning to cinemas this summer in a revamped version of the second (and second-best) Terminator movie, Terminator 2: Judgment Day.
Terminator 2: Judgement Day 3D is having its extra dimension applied retrospectively by writer/director James Cameron himself, in the manner of 2012's retouched re-release of Titanic.
Reports of that experiment – in which the 3D effect was used only for scenes which would actually benefit from it – were overwhelmingly favourable.
Given that Avatar remains the only 3D film to successfully use the new technology in a fully immersive manner, my hopes are high that he can do similar retrospective justice to his 1991 action spectacular.
Cameron has also remastered his film from the original negatives in 4K with the help of his original director of photography, Alan Greenberg – you can watch a very informative Q&A with the director about the 3D-ification of T2 below.
