THERE'S an eclectic slew of music and music-related movies coming to Queen's Film Theatre next month with their Hijack! weekend.
Running from Friday July 7 to Sunday July 9, its three whole days of music documentaries and music-themed films chosen by the QFT staff, plus some of your actual live local music to kick the whole thing off on the Friday night.
Acts performing in the QFT Cafe will include Susie Blue, Rory Nellis, Owen Denvir and the QFT House Band, featuring members of Sister Ghost and The Sea Close By.
Excitingly, Hijack! QFT Mixtape Vol 1 brings a selection of Northern Ireland premieres to its screens including presentations of the long-awaited documentary on LA rockers L7, L7: Pretend We're Dead, American Valhalla's study of the recent collaboration between Stooges man Iggy Pop and Josh Homme from Queens of the Stone Age, and veteran documentarian John Scheinfeld's new film Chasing Trane: The John Coltrane Documentary.
The event also offers a rare chance to catch a double bill of Penelope Spheeris's pair of essential music documentaries, The Decline of Western Civilization and The Decline of Western Civilization Part II: The Metal Years covering LA's punk rock and hair metal scene in the 1980s, plus a revival for the late Jonathan Demme's iconic Talking Heads concert film Stop Making Sense.
There will also be some family-friendly musical film favourites like Jack Black's School of Rock, the director's cut of 1984's multi-Oscar winner Amadeus and a Beauty and The Beast sing-along.
