Patton Oswalt will be performing two shows at this year's Galway comedy festival

US COMEDIAN Patton Oswalt will be one of the top draws at this year's Galway comedy festival – or the 'Vodafone Comedy Carnival', as its sponsors prefer it to be known – which takes place between Tuesday October 24 and Monday October 30.

The alternative comedy star, whose most recent Netflix stand-up special Talking for Clapping earned him a Grammy Award for 'best comedy album', will be making a pair of rare Irish appearances at the festival on Friday October 27 and Saturday October 28.

Also bringing their funny to the legendary Galway event will be the north's own Jimeoin being 'Ridiculous', 8 Out of 10 Cats star Jon Richardson performing his new Old Man tour, Katy Brand with her show I Was A Teenage Christian, Reginald D Hunter with Some People v Reginald D Hunter and Today FM radio stars Dermot & Dave.

Recently announced as host of TV3's version of Blind Date, Dublin comedy star Al Porter will be bringing his full band to Galway, while Limerick comedian Karl Spain is also set to return to the festival with his X-rated Late Night Karlnival events.

These popular comedy evenings offer comedians an opportunity to perform the kind of dark, twisted material that's unlikely to see them invited to Live At The Apollo.

:: Tickets and event details at Vodafonecomedycarnival.com. The full line-up will be announced on Thursday August 24.
