BEN Wheatley's excellent shoot-out thriller arrives on Blu-ray and DVD on Monday August 7, equipped with a selection of extra features to entice you to part with your hard-earned cash in exchange for this violent, funny and stylishly realised film about a 1970s arms deal that quickly descends into a brutal extended gunfight.
To wit, an entertainingly lighthearted audio commentary featuring Mr Wheatley and Irish stars Jack Reynor and Cillian Murphy reveals all sorts of interesting facts about what you see and hear on screen, including shrinking camper vans, costume and grooming choices, editing mistakes, haunted cars, soundtrack/score decisions, flubbed lines and accidental injuries, plus the tantalising prospect of a possible sequel.
Both Blu-ray and DVD also include a 'making of' featurette and short but worthwhile interviews with the director, Cillian Murphy and his Co Down co-star Michael Smiley, which delve further behind the scenes of this Martin Scorsese-produced flick.
Free Fire benefits enormously from a superb ensemble cast also featuring Brie Larson, Armie Hammer, Sharlto Copley, Sam Riley, Noah Taylor, Enzo Cilenti and Babou Ceesay, plus a great period-appropriate score by Geoff Barrow and Ben Salisbury.
Home viewing allows you to catch subtleties and snippets of dialogue amid the chaotic action that may have been missed at the cinema, so it's well worth giving one of 2017's best films another shot on your format of choice.
Free Fire is also available to rent and buy via online platforms including YouTube and Google Play.
