FILM Hub NI's second annual Cinema Day will be bringing loads of classic movies and recent gems back to big screens across the north on Monday August 28.
That's a bank holiday, so many people will be off work and thus able to enjoy a full morning, afternoon and evening of film-related fun: start praying for rain now, lest there be any guilt about spending a day that's 'too good to waste' in the comforting gloom of the cinema.
Special events include Breakfast With Bill at QFT Belfast, a specially catered 10am screening of Groundhog Day, Movie House's mid-morning revival of family favourite Mary Poppins, a 'cardboard cinema' presentation of The Lego Batman Movie at Into Film HQ where kids can build their own box office before watching this animated favourite, and a live-scored evening screening of The Passion of Joan of Arc at The Strand.
There's also an eclectic selection of vintage cinema on offer throughout the day at cinemas from Rostrevor to Derry, including The Quiet Man, Casablanca, The Wizard of Oz, If..., Planet of The Apes, Barbarella, Bullitt and Dog Day Afternoon, plus revivals of more recent raves like Fight Club on 35mm, Ghost World and I, Daniel Blake.
Best of all, most of the events are free or super cheap, meaning you've no excuse not to get involved – whatever the weather.
