SCOTTISH stand-up Fern Brady has been a regular visitor to Ireland over the past couple of years and the West Lothian comic will keep up this tradition in 2018 on her first ever tour with current show Suffer, Fools!
Fern will be at The Black Box on January 7 as part of the Out To Lunch Festival with this fully realised version of the work-in-progress she brought to Belfast back in the summer before taking it to Edinburgh for her third well received run at the Fringe.
Suffer, Fools! features quite a bit of 'locally relevant content', including tales of her bigoted Irish granny, tiny terminally boring Irish boyfriend, her Catholic education and the insightful views of Belfast taxi drivers, plus anecdotes about her strictly religious working class Scottish upbringing, being a sub-par stripper giving lapdances to pay for a degree in Arabic & Islamic History, battling mental health problems as a teen and how she barely survived a particularly nasty abusive relationship.
So yeah, there's some serious confessional stuff in there, but the way Fern's wickedly twisted sense of humour and bold delivery enable her to mine it for laughs and insight mark her out as one of the most promising young comedians around today.
