RENOWNED Irish pianist and Ulster Youth Orchestra patron Michael McHale, headlines a special UYO alumni concert at the end of the month. To mark 25 years of excellence, the UYO brings its special year to a close on Saturday December 29 at the Ulster Hall.
The event follows a showcase tour to Austria and Slovakia earlier this year when Northern Ireland's talented young orchestral players gave public concerts at the Museums Quartier in Vienna and the Slovak Radio Hall, Bratislava, before spending a day exploring Mozart's home town of Salzburg.
Now, to round off the orchestra's 25th anniversary in style, the alumni concert will feature musicians from the past 25 years in what conductor Paul McCusker promises will be "an electrifying evening".
"It's a pleasure to be invited back to conduct the UYO alumni concert, as it's a fabulous opportunity to celebrate all the talented people that have passed through the orchestra over the years," he said.
"So many former members have gone on to have successful careers in music, with many others continuing to perform at a high level in their spare time."
