BELFAST writer Joe Nawaz will present his brand new one-man show Small Tales From Talktown at Belfast's Strand Arts Centre tomorrow night as part of their regular Stranded! series of events.
Having lived in Belfast on and off for as long as he can remember, Joe has found himself in some startlingly unremarkable circumstances along the way. In taxis, buses, coffee shops, waiting rooms, traffic lights and even round his mum’s, the man who brought you the autobiographical hit Fake ID has been listening – to people. People who talk. A lot.
With a keen ear for the minutiae of everyday life, and the compulsive edge of a sweet tooth in a cake eating competition, your host has diligently (sometimes surreptitiously) kept a record of the small moments in, around and often just quite uncomfortably near to his own life.
Small Tales From Talktown promises an evening of reflection on these random encounters, chance meetings, overheard conversations. Along the way, he'll introduce you to family, friends and total strangers armed with the tiny conflicts, banal struggles and awkward silences which make-up Belfast's slightly eggy oxygen of life.
Join Joe for this touching, funny and sometimes rude tribute to hometown folk everywhere – and his beloved 'Belfastards' in particular – and the small, profound dramas that fill their everyday.
Just don’t call him 'the sod of small things'.
