A NEW exhibition at Millennium Court Arts Centre in Portadown inspired by the stories and memories of older adults living in the area reveals how local history and the natural environment can be utilised to tap creativity and promote wellbeing.
This Place runs from Saturday January 18 until Wednesday March 4 and is the culmination of two three-month residencies at the Millennium Court Arts Centre by artists Amanda Coogan and Tonya McMullan. Both have researched and developed new work based on the memories and reflections of older adults living in rural communities in and around Portadown, as well as people's connection with their local environment and wildlife.
Amanda Coogan says: "It has been a privilege to work with the community groups and to find out how the local landscape and ways of life have changed."
There will be a series of free events running from Saturday January 18 until Tuesday March 3 as part of the This Place project, including live music, performances, talks, yoga, a family open art day and candle making workshops. There will also be a series of workshops for schools and small groups.
