SEAMUS Heaney HomePlace in Bellaghy, Co Derry, will celebrate St Brigid on Friday ahead of the female patron saint of Ireland’s official day on Saturday, February 1. The event, Strung On Air: A St Brigid's Celebration, will feature some of Ireland’s leadings female writers including Moyra Donaldson, Bernie McGill and Maria McManus reading their work alongside musician Brigid O’Neill. Bernie McGill, author of two novels and a short story collection, is currently Writing Fellow with the Royal Literary Fund at the Seamus Heaney Centre at Queen’s University Belfast. Maria McManus is a poet and playwright whose most recent collection is Available Light. Moyra Donaldson is a poet, creative writing facilitator and editor whose recent collection, Carnivorous, was published last year. Downpatrick artist Brigid O’Neill is a genre-spanning singer-songwriter whose latest album Touchstone sees her weave elements of folk, country and jazz into her tales of happiness, heartbreak and the human condition.
