1. When did you think about a career in music/broadcasting and what were your first steps into it?
I’ve always been passionate about music and from a young age loved listening to my parents’ CDs and records. I then started singing when I was 10, mainly in local musicals. Whilst I decided musical theatre wasn’t a career path I wanted to go down, I did develop such a love for entertaining people and having an audience. So, when I got the opportunity to become a presenter at Q Radio nearly two years ago, it truly felt like the perfect job for me.
2. Best gigs you’ve been to?
The best gig I’ve been to, and one of the best nights of my entire life, was when I saw Celine Dion at the Colosseum in Las Vegas. The tickets were a 21st birthday present from a friend, who I was traveling with and even from quite far back in the crowd the power of Celine’s voice blew me away.
3. Fantasy wedding/birthday party band?
I think I’d have to get The Spice Girls to reunite for one night only for the ultimate birthday bash. It’s my 30th in May so maybe I should reach out and ask them? For my wedding I would love UB40 to sing (I Can’t Help) Falling In Love With You as my first dance.
4. The record you’d take to a desert island?
Animal by Def Leppard because it sounds great in the sunshine or the rain.
5. And the book you’d take?
A blank notebook and a pen. I’m more of a writer than a reader and I think being on a desert island would be the perfect place to pen an epic novel (or at least some random musings).
6. Top three films?
Mrs Doubtfire because it’s a childhood favourite that has stood the test of time. Ferris Bueller’s Day Off for the same reasons – major nostalgia and so many quotable and hilarious moments. Finally, Pretty Woman because of the chemistry between Richard Gere and Julia Roberts, and just how beautiful she is in it.
7. Worst film you’ve seen?
I went to the cinema years ago and saw a film called Mama starring Jennifer Lawrence. I had never taken to Facebook just to criticise something but it was so bad I went on when I got home and declared it the worst film ever in my status and dozens of people agreed. It was utter rubbish.
8. Favourite authors?
I would have to say Helen Fielding because I read all the Bridget Jones books growing up. Her humour is so dry and her observations on life are so very relatable for me.
9. Sport you most enjoy and top team?
I am the antithesis of a sports fan – I really do not enjoy watching any sport. No disrespect to any athletes or sportsmen or women but it just really isn’t my cup of tea.
10. Ideal holiday destination?
I am dying to go back to Orlando. I am such a theme-park junkie and I just love the magic of Disneyworld, and the beautiful weather. For somewhere that I haven’t been, I would love to go to the Bahamas and swim with the pigs.
11. Pet hates?
Bad spelling and grammar; impunctuality; people licking their fingers when eating crisps; coriander and people pronouncing ‘espresso’ as ‘expresso’.
12. What’s your favourite:
Dinner? Salted chilli prawns, satay sauce, fried rice and chips.
Dessert? My mum’s pavlova.
Drink? Mojitos.
13. Who is your best friend and how do you know each other?
Faron McCallan, who has been my best friend since birth. Our mums grew up together so we were brought into each other’s lives by them, but stayed in each other’s lives by choice. We see each other every day for a walk, text all day and night and in 28 years we’ve never run out of anything to say to each other.
14. Is there a God?
I would like to say so, but no-one is qualified to say categorically whether there is a God or not. I think that if believing in God brings people peace and comfort that is absolutely wonderful and I am respectful of all religious backgrounds.
