Professor George Clare (Norton) and his wife Catherine (Amanda Seyfried) move to the small New York town of Chosen into a dairy farm that has fallen on hard times since tragedy befell the previous owner.
As the couple settle into new surroundings and raise a young daughter called Franny, the farm's dark past begins to manifest. Catherine experiences phenomena that she is scared to disclose to her cynical husband, whose attention is focused on a flirty female student.
Slowly, Catherine's mental state unravels and she fears that grim history may be repeating itself.

She has little interest in engaging with classmates at her school, who seem to be frittering away their youth.
Every day, Suzanne passes a local theatre and, inside, she meets 35-year-old Raphael (Arnaud Valois). She becomes obsessed with the older man and, despite the troubling age difference, Raphael reciprocates Suzanne's amorous designs.
Sparks fly but the teenager cannot escape a nagging feeling that she is missing out on an important aspect of her childhood by devoting her time to Raphael.

Anna's first bout ends in bruising defeat but when she learns that her mother Mary founded the club and was a lioness in the ring, Anna joins forces with former boxing coach Jack Murphy (Alex Baldwin) to hone her fighting skills.
