Music Scene: At Most A Kiss is blooming marvellous

Blossoms are definitely a band to watch
Blossoms are definitely a band to watch

BLOSSOMS' new track At Most A Kiss is one of the best singles of 2016 so far. This is definitely a band to watch and they have a sparkly cool sound that is highly infectious.

The bass breakdown in At Most A Kiss is a joy to behold and their combination of guitars and synths is a a very potent mixture.

Their Charlemagne EP, which appeared last year, turned me on to Blossoms immediately and thankfully the latest material certainly more than lives up to the band's early promise.

At Most A Kiss is also an EP and other songs included such as Fourteen and Misery show a a welcome diversity to their repertoire with more ponderous and quirky instrumentation.

One strong common denominator in Blossom's work, however, is an obvious ear for a killer chorus – the melodies are subtle yet totally compelling.

There is a very real chance that Blossoms will soon become your new favourite band.

Seek and enjoy.

NO SLEEP 'TIL BELFAST

BELSONIC does look inviting this year for many different reasons but, to be honest, I think the key moment of the whole extended event will be holding one's arms aloft in total abandon at Titanic as Faithless knock out the magnificent Insomnia is all its resplendent live glory!

That five-minute experience alone is actually worth staging the entire festival for. Roll on Saturday June 11.

Other evenings of course also have their distinct allure – Biffy Clyro take to the stage on June 25, David Guetta gets his usual party started along with Robin Schultz and Jonas Blue the next night, while Stereophonics return to Belsonic again for what will be a top gig on Wednesday June 29 when they will be supported by The Vaccines.

SMOOTH SUEDE

THE excellent Suede have just released their new single What I'm Trying To Tell You from the impressive album Night Thoughts.

There are many tracks on this album that could be held high as an accurate representation of its purpose and direction – this song is definitely one of those but like the rest of the content on Night Thoughts, it is much better listened to in context.

Drink the album in as a whole – the experience is much more rewarding.

RETURN OF THE MACK

I'M LOVING Macklemore and Ryan Lewis's new album This Unruly Mess I've Made.

As you would expect with this duo, it's hard to decide which you like better, the superb production or the absolute feast of colourfully clever and comical lyrics.

Put those two attributes together and it's easy to see why these guys are one of hip hop's leading lights. Check them for yourself on April 21 at the SSE.
