A WORLD-CLASS line-up of classical musicians are to arrive in Derry ahead of the four-day Walled City Music Festival.
Now in its seventh year, the festival will kick off on Thursday June 2 and run until Sunday June 5, featuring concerts, workshops and outreach events.
The opening night will see leading percussionists Andy Akiho and Ian David Rosenbaum playing the steel drum and marimba in concert with the festival's artistic directors Dr Cathal Breslin on piano and Dr Sabrina Hu playing the flute.
Final year students from the Ulster University music department will take to the stage in two concerts on Friday, before being treated to performances from jazz trumpeter Linley Hamilton and guitarist Julien Colarossi.
Undertones' bassist Mickey Bradley and Clannad singer and harpist Moya Brennan will be guest speakers at the event.
American pianist Jeremy Denk will perform on Saturday, before the festival closes with a performance by Kirill Troussov, described as “one of the most gifted violinists of his generation".
The performance by Mr Troussov will be in place of the advertised Measha Brueggergosman concert, which was cancelled due to illness. The festival organisers have said that tickets purchased for the Brueggergosman concert will be automatically valid for the Troussov concert. Alternatively, a full refund is available.
During the festival, Babu Press are to visit primary schools across Derry to present children’s classical music workshops based on the tale of Gulliver’s Travels.
