A NEW call centre in Enniskillen will create 800 jobs over the next three years.

It's the biggest jobs announcement outside Belfast in more than a decade.

However, the jobs at Teleperformance, with annual wages around £15,000 will pay well below the average salary at around the new national living wage.

Teleperformance is an outsourced customer service management company which already has two call centres in the north.

It provides services to a number of blue chip companies across the world including supermarket chain Sainsbury's and car maker Renault as well as the Passport Service.

The new centre is being backed by £2.75 million from the public purse.

It comes after Teleperformance saved 200 jobs at Liberty Insurance's contact centre in then when it agreed to take over its management in July.

The news marked a return to jobs announcements for finance minister Arlene Foster who became accustomed to such engagements during seven years as enterprise minister.

With around 2,000 people employed at its operations in Bangor and Newry, it is one of Northern Ireland's biggest employers.

Invest Northern Ireland has offered the company £2.5million of support towards the project while a further £249,500 is being made available by the Department for Employment and Learning to train 100 people.

Teleperformance UK and Ireland CEO Alistair Niederer said he was "delighted" to make the announcement.

"It is our objective to provide world class customer service through our top quality, well trained staff. It is our philosophy to transform passion into excellence and Northern Ireland had proven to be a great place for us to do this," he said.

"We see the commitment of our staff and the superior service they are able to provide as an important part of our competitive advantage. People considering applying for the new jobs here in Enniskillen should be assured of our commitment to provide training and a stimulating and motivational place to work."

Arlene Foster said the arrival of Teleperformance in Fermanagh "marks another tremendous milestone which I am proud to be a part of".

"A reinvestment by this international company is a significant endorsement for Northern Ireland and what we have to offer companies as a place to do business," she said.

"The job opportunities created will not only benefit people in Enniskillen but also those in the surrounding areas. There will be a wide variety of roles appealing to those looking to develop their career, and those looking to return to work. There will also be opportunities for young people, who will benefit greatly from training and skills development as they begin their working career.â"

Employment minister Dr Stephen Farry added: "Since Teleperformance opened its first operation in Bangor in 1998 it has built up a strong reputation for developing and delivering consistent, quality customer service experiences, which is made possible by the skills on offer in Northern Ireland.

"The new jobs will provide a variety of opportunities, offering flexible meaningful employment in a range of positions and the opportunity to develop important, transferable skills."

Sinn Fein MLA Phil Flanagan said the announcement "is to be welcomed and will help boost the local economy".

“To have secured contracts from one of the leading names in communications augers well for the Fermanagh area," he said.
