A £1.5 MILLION expansion at The Outlet shopping complex in Banbridge will create around 50 new jobs - should the plans get the final go ahead.

The destination, which was bought last year by The Lotus Group, wants to expand its food offering by attracting new international restaurant brands.

It plans to redevelopment a section of the Outlet while also changing some of the public walkways around the units.

Already this year, the centre has seen a £4.5 million investment in a new Omniplex Cinema.

Alastair Coulson, director of property at The Lotus Group said: "This is another significant investment we are bringing forward which reflects the confidence we have in the reshaping of The Outlet.

"This is the first stage of our ambitious plans to re-invigorate the leisure, food and beverage and retail offer and it is our intention to move forward quickly and build on our success.

“We already have planning permission for the redevelopment of the units but some final tweaks means that we are only a matter of weeks away from full sign off and then we are ready to go.

“We are at an advanced stage with two very well-known international restaurant brands and hope to be able to announce who they are very soon."

The Lotus Group said footfall at the Outlet had risen 10 per cent in the past year.

"Our footfall figures show that shoppers and visitors are picking The Outlet to shop, eat and have fun with their families at all times of the day, and we are making sure that we can attract them back time and again with further investment in the scheme," added Mr Coulson.
