HILLSBOROUGH-based software development firm Tascomi is creating 20 new high-value jobs ahead of launching "ground-breaking" planning software for local councils.

The firm, which employs over 40 people, is aiming to create further new jobs early next year when the new planning platform is introduced, "helping councils become more effective and efficient than ever before."

With the 20 posts coming with an average salary of £35,000, the local economy will benefit from £700,000 annually.

Tascomi said the jobs have been created in response to a series of significant contract wins, both nationally and internationally - accumulating to over £1 million in total and making 2016 the company's most successful year to date.

Looking to the new year, managing director Richard Martin said the introduction of its ground-breaking planning software solution would "revolutionise" the methodology for processing planning applications across Britain and Ireland.

"We are highly motivated to make a difference to public life in Northern Ireland through jobs, economic input and aiding our local councils," he said.

"I think our forthcoming planning product will really help to make a positive impact locally, nationally and internationally."

Tascomi, which specialises in cloud solutions for local authorities, was recently appointed as the sole provider of software for public protection and building control for 20 local authorities in Wales.

In addition, it provides specialist cloud-based solutions to councils and local authorities throughout Northern Ireland and Britain.

Meanwhile, another software business, See.Sense of Newtownards, has announced expansion plans which will triple its workforce by 2018.

Part of development plans designed to build brand awareness and its customer base in export markets, the jobs will have have an annual salary of £29,000 and cover a range of disciplines.
