CLOUD computing firm Nimbus CS plans to create eight jobs over the next year when it moves into a brand new office in Belfast’s Herron Wharf.

The company, started six years ago by young entrepreneur Gareth McAlister in his parents’ attic, already employs 12 staff in Belfast, Dublin and Liverpool.

But it says its new high-specification waterfront office will provide a base from which to take his business forward towards a period of further growth and expansion.

Much of Nimbus’ success emanates from the high profile contracts the company has landed over the past 18 months, including deals with IT financial services company FinTrU and UK/Ireland truck and trailer rental firm Hireco.

In addition, the company boasts clients such as BlueMac Manufacturing and DMAC Engineering and has carved out something of a niche within the manufacturing sector.

Through specialising in offering support to businesses with more than one operating site (such as TBL International, who are the operators of Titanic Belfast and Eurostock Foods), Nimbus says it it able to provide effective results for all size of businesses.

Managing director Gareth McAlister said: “I'm delighted that since our foundation in 2010 we've grown from a tiny business servicing a few clients to almost 200 SMEs from a variety of sectors across the UK and Ireland.

"We’ve landed some major contracts in recent times, with the FinTrU support contract being one we are particularly proud of.

"And we are now set to grow rapidly with eight position being filled in the next few months. The opening our new office is a personal milestone for me, and the staff who have worked so hard to support our clients in recent years. In these difficult times, it’s good to be able to announce some good news for the local economy.”

Nimbus has been supported in its expansion drive by Invest NI, and the agency's chief executive Alastair Hamilton said: “Gareth is someone whom we have been delighted to support through our Leader programme, and his success in the IT industry demonstrates what can be achieved through innovation, clarity of purpose and expertise.

“Nimbus is a great example of how a local company can grow from humble beginnings to compete on the global stage.

"Supporting young, innovative companies like this to reach their full potential is a key priority for Invest NI. The assistance offered to enable Nimbus to expand is workforce will help the company to realise its growth ambitions.”
