FOOD champions Jilly and Simon Dougan claimed the 'outstanding contribution' gong at the 22nd Institute of Hospitality NI Awards at Belfast Titanic.

The husband and wife team - Simon is managing director of Yellow Door while Jilly is a chef, edible gardener and published author - received a specially commissioned award from Newbridge Silverware.

The chairman and committee of the Northern Ireland Branch broke with tradition this year and presented the outstanding contribution award to a partnership instead of just one individual.

BBC’s Barra Best and UTV’s Pamela Ballantine hosted the glittering event, which recognises the most dedicated and passionate professionals working across Northern Ireland’s ever-expanding hospitality industry in 20 wide-ranging categories.

Institute of Hospitality NI chairman Michael Cafolla said: “The outstanding contribution award is given to those that are innovative, progressive and driven, striving to achieve the very best for their organisations and for this industry, whilst also making a major economic impact.

“This partnership is a force to be reckoned with. They are strong, passionate, creative, driven and much-respected advocates of the hospitality industry in Northern Ireland and beyond.

“With this award we are recognising and celebrating Jilly and Simon’s focus and commitment to developing themselves, their people and their organisation.

“In so doing, they raise the bar for the rest of the industry, ensuring it continues to flourish and grow.”
