THE NEWTOWNABBEY-based McKeever Hotel Group has added to its growing portfolio through the purchase of the Dunadry Hotel.
The 80-room hotel located just a few miles from Antrim town has been acquired from the Mooney Hotel Group for an undisclosed sum and now brings the number of hotels operated by the McKeever family to five.
The major deal comes as no surprise after the Irish News revealed in March that discussions were taking place between the parties in relation to the sale.
The family-owned McKeever Hotel Group owns and operates; Corrs Corner Hotel, Newtownabbey; Dunsilly Hotel, Antrim; Adair Arms Hotel, Ballymena and Dillons Hotel, Letterkenny. The addition of the Dunadry brings an end to over thirty years of ownership from the Mooney Group, who purchased the business in 1986.
Managing director of McKeever Hotel Group, Eugene McKeever said the acquisition of the Dunadry Hotel was a "great fit".
"Given the buoyant tourism sector, we are delighted to add it to our collection."
"Our hotels are very much at the heart of the local communities in which we operate. As such we will continue to meet the demands and requirements of the local patrons of the Dunadry Hotel and it will be very much business as usual. Current bookings will not be affected and all employees will be retained. We are very much looking forward to working with the staff of the Dunadry Hotel and welcoming new customers as well as looking after the regular customers too.”
The McKeever Hotel Group has been part of the tourism and hospitality market in Northern Ireland for nearly twenty five years and currently employs over 200 staff. Looking forward the group has plans to grow its accommodation, conference and banqueting business specifically targeting the tourism and corporate market.
Confirming the sale Mooney Group, who own the Armagh City Hotel and the Wellington Park Hotel in Belfast explained the deal was agreed following an approach and a "good purchase offer".
"We have no doubt the Dunadry Hotel is now in safe hands."
