PLANS have been unveiled for a £17 million investment by Groening Developments Ltd for a high-quality residential development in Cultra.
The developer is currently undertaking community consultation, which has included a well-attended public information event held recently in the Culloden Hotel, in advance of submitting a full planning application to Ards and North Down Borough Council.
The exclusive Merchant’s Gate development on a 2.4 hectare site proposes 41 dwellings, comprised by a mixture of large detached homes, cottages style town-houses and apartments.
Michael Bell of Groening Developments said: "The Cultra area of Holywood is one of Northern Ireland’s most attractive residential locations, and Merchant’s Gate will seek to build on that.
"While there is clearly demand for family homes, there is also strong demand within the downsizing market, so our proposals respond to that by providing a mixture of detached, cottage style town-houses and apartments.
"The site sits within the natural contours of the local landscape in the northern foothills of the Holywood Hills. Our design team has taken great care to ensure that the proposed layout respects existing dwellings in the area as well as improving the local landscape and environment, particularly through extensive additional tree planting and the creation of an arboretum."
He added: "I believe the plans represent the most appropriate use of this beautiful site. The development represents a significant private investment that will also support local jobs in the construction industry.
"We are looking forward to making progress in the coming months and hope, subject to planning, to be on site in early 2019."
