PLANS for a new £40 million residential development in Belfast city centre have been unveiled.
A car park site on Wellwood Street is set to be transformed as part of the Albion scheme, which features multiple luxury apartments for sale or for rent.
A development proposal is due to go to out to public consultation next week and if plans are eventually approved the scheme is expected to create 250 construction jobs, as well as offer apprenticeship opportunities.
Ciaran Deazley, project architect from Like Architects said the development will help re-invigorate the local area.
“The Albion development seeks to provide a landmark building for inner city living. It has been designed as two buildings connected by a landscaped square, the high quality brick and glass façade will bring a contemporary presence and vibrancy to the area," Mr Deazley said.
The announcement of the project coincides with an initiative from community workers on Sandy Row, who are working to revitalise an area that has experienced population decrease from 25,000 to 4,000.
The scheme also forms part of Belfast City Council plans to provide new housing for an additional 66,000 people in the city by 2035.
Feedback on the plans will be sought from the local community at a consultation event on Monday. The event taking place in the Holiday Inn on Hope Street will run from 2pm to 8pm.
Meanwhile Tyrone-based McAleer & Rushe has outlined plans to build a nine to nineteen storey apartment building on Corporation Street in the city.
The planned development comprises 347 build-to-rent apartments over ground floor retail and includes a semi-basement 84-space car park.
A public exhibition of the proposal will take place on Wednesday November 21 in the Ramada Encore Hotel at St Anne's Square from 1pm to 7pm.
