YOU can have your choice of chicken, lamb or turkey, complemented by the likes of goji berries, sweet potato, kale, quinoa, coconut and apple cider vinegar . . . .

But this isn't a menu in one of the north's world-renowned restaurants. Instead it's an innovative ‘Chefs Selection’ range for your pooch.

And the new health-focused brands from Mackle Petfoods in Dungannon will become top dog in Tesco from this week, when it launches in 300 of its stores around the UK.

The investment is the latest commercial announcement from Mackle, where its Naturo brand already available in 900 Tesco stores, and the new product launch will enhance its reputation as a leading supplier of natural petfoods to support specific dietary requirements.

Chef’s Selection was developed in response to feedback from pet owners who want to give natural foods to their dogs, in particular where they have allergies, digestion and skin issues, or other medical conditions.

Mackle has become known for its innovation in product development and is the first petfood company to include cider vinegar in its ingredients (it contains acetic acid, is efficiently metabolised by dogs and may help support against hypertension and reduced cholesterol levels).

The Chef’s Selection range is made from fully traceable natural ingredients and also contains coconut, goji berries, kale and chickpeas which are known by consumers as superfoods for their significant health boosting properties.

Mackle sales manager Colin Ferguson said: “We're constantly listening to our customers and act in response to feedback about dogs with digestive issues and skin allergies.

"We remain focused on market trends, encouraging our new product development team to take innovative concepts like the use of cider vinegar to see how they can be incorporated into products to deliver health advantages to pets.

"We’ve even developed a special Christmas dinner for dogs this year containing Turkey and Cranberry, so pets can take part in the festive season without the risk of upsetting their systems.”

In 2017 Mackle Petfoods invested £3 million in its manufacturing facility in the Moy, which has enabled it to more than double production of the healthy pet range Naturo, which was launched in 2011 and which now produces 30 million units a year and exports to 14 countries.
