BELFAST'S Olympia Leisure Centre has been named the best in Northern Ireland and Wales at a UK awards.

The Belfast facility, which reopened in 2017 was awarded the regional prize for Best Club/Centre of the Year at the ukactive Awards in Manchester on June 6.

The Olympia is operated by GLL under its Better brand, in partnership with Belfast City Council.

Since it’s opening in 2017, the leisure centre has seen double the amount of visits per year compared to its predecessor and is the first centre to be delivered as part of Belfast City Council's £105m investment programme, with a further three due to open in the next year.

Gareth Kirk, regional director at GLL said they are thrilled to win the award.

“Since we opened the centre in 2017, the team has strived to deliver outstanding, accessible facilities and services. As a social enterprise, we are proud to see that these facilities have helped to get more local people active."
