THE NEW owners of UTV’s former Belfast headquarters has revealed more details of its plans to demolish the existing buildings to make way for 271 apartments.

Olympian Homes has already announced plans to develop for the former media hub on the Ormeau Road into a new build-to-rent complex on the edge of the city centre.

Now the developer has notified Belfast City Council of its plans to build an eight storey block of apartments on the site. The application was submitted to the local authority just before Christmas.

The site on the lower Ormeau Road is located next to the recently completed Portland 88 development.

The application has been lodged by Locka Ltd, a subsidiary of Olympian Homes.

The group is already developing major student accommodation developments on Nelson Street and Great Patrick Street in Belfast.

The company has argued that the precedent for large scale residential development has already been set on that end of the Ormeau Road.

If approved, the group expects to be on site during early 2021.

The former UTV headquarters went on the market for around £3.5 million in April 2018.

The media company later re-located its entire operation to the City Quays development next to Belfast Harbour.

Olmypian states: “At the heart of the design proposal is the creation of high quality residential accommodation and the introduction of external courtyards to provide considered amenity space that will enhance the quality of living for prospective residents.

“The development will foster a balanced community through the provision of a range of apartment configurations and sizes and the selected typology has been utilised to enhance residents’ well-being.”
