CRAIGAVON luggage firm Madlug has launched a campaign encouraging the UK to support children and young people in care throughout the Covid-19 pandemic.
It has produced an activity book, specifically designed for 4-11-year-olds, which provides children in care with puzzles, games, doodles and creative activities to keep help inspire creativity and encourage curiosity. They are being sold through Madlug’s ‘buy-one-give-one’ approach.
Children and young people in care are more at risk during Covid-19 as local authorities are under-staffed and social workers stretched. Thousands of children in care are now having reduced contact with birth families and siblings, leaving many feeling lost and vulnerable.
Madlug founder and chief executive Dave Linton says he hopes the activity book will enable parents and foster parents alike to educate their children and enable them to make a difference to the lives of those in their care.
“With every book purchased, we will donate at least another one to a foster child because at a time of lockdown they need to know that people care and that they are incredible.
“Due to the nature of our work, we are in constant contact with social services, local councils and charities who were already at breaking point before this pandemic.
“Given self-isolation and rules about distancing, children in care have had their contact stopped, causing more confusion and enhanced loneliness. We want to celebrate these amazing young people and enable them to feel loved and valued.”
With every activity book bought, Madlug (which stands for Make a Difference Luggage) will donate at least one other to a vulnerable child. More details at www.madlug.com
