THE Construction Industry Training Board has launched a new bursary award aimed at encouraging school leavers in Northern Ireland to consider a career in construction and undertake a third level built environment-related qualification.
Applications are now open for 12 first year full time students to apply for a £1000 bursary towards the cost of their training.
To qualify, applicants must have applied to study a third level built environment related qualification at Level 4 or above with a Northern Ireland training provider. Then, following the completion of an application form, applicants will be entered into a draw for one of the 12 bursary awards.
From the design, construction and maintenance of buildings and infrastructure projects such as bridges, roads, tunnels, waterways, a career in built environment provides varied and wide-ranging opportunities which are challenging, exciting and rewarding.
Increasingly, new emerging digital technologies are rapidly changing the built environment landscape. Companies are actively seeking to recruit people with skills including building information modelling, drones, augmented reality/ virtual reality and computer aided design (CAD).
A career in construction also offers a variety of careers including skilled trades, IT, marketing, project management, design and much more.
CITB NI chief executive Barry Neilson said: “This bursary is fantastic support for first year students about to embark on their built environment qualification.
“The process is simple. All applicants need to do is visit our website, ensure they meet the criteria set out in the terms and conditions, then fill in and submit the application form by September 18.”
