FAST-growth Banbridge construction firm Kane Group has secured another £22.5 million workload in London, where it has just opened a new logistics hub.

The family-run firm will deliver the design and build monitoring and evaluation (M&E) contracts for two schemes being undertaken by Bennett Construction.

Work at the largest of the schemes, Millbrook Park Phase 6B, consists of the full mechanical, electrical and plumbing installation at the residential project comprising 257 apartments contained within two blocks.

The 18-month contract includes the low temperature hot water system requirements which is served from a site wide district heating network, with an intake plant room located within each block, where Kane will also instal a mechanical smoke extract system.

The other contract is at Buckle Street, a 104-bedroom 11-floor boutique hotel, where a seven-month programme of works includes Kane installing air conditioning, mechanical ventilation, fire fighting systems, public health systems, general & small power installation, general & emergency lighting, building management systems and security systems.

Kane managing director Cathal McMullan said: “Securing these contracts further strengthens our relationship with Bennett Construction and showcases our ability as a forward-thinking M&E contractor.

“Utilising our in-house prefabrication facility, we have offered off-site construction solutions. Early contractor involvement was crucial to ensure a robust and comprehensive design from the outset.”

Founded in 1967, Kane has grown into a multi-disciplined building services contractor with a turnover of £55 million.

As well as its headquarters in Banbridge, it has offices in London, Glasgow and Dundalk, and the firm now employs 200 staff.

The firm's presence in London has helped secure a series of lucrative work in the past, including a £10m contract to provide heating services to the luxurious Claridge’s Hotel.

Last August its sister company Alternative Heat, which is also run by the McMullan family, secured planning permission for a new £5 million fabrication building and warehouse at the group’s headquarters in the Scarva Road industrial estate.
