A US specialist in the cannabinoid (CBD) industry is setting up its European headquarters in Northern Ireland which will lead to the creation of 10 specialist scientific jobs over the next two years.
Triverity Laboratories, established last year and which already has a base in Loveland, Colorado, says it will bring a new level of rigour and expertise to the process of cannabinoid analysis and reporting.
Its Belfast operation will be headed up by leading CBD industry figure Wendi Young, whose background is analytical chemistry with experience in product development, regulatory and compliance in the food, pharma and cannabis industries.
Triverity provides a new service which allows CBD manufacturers to receive cannabinoid analyses they can fully trust and test reports they can understand, plus consultancy to help them attain their necessary compliance.
It will operate through a global network of laboratories, all of which adhere to its stringent cannabinoid testing standards, which means Triverity’s customers can be assured of exemplary analytical approaches, verifiable data and clear, intelligible reports.
Ms Young said the launch of the company came after she and founding partners Heather Krebs and Alix Britton spent time looking for an independent third-party lab but couldn’t find exactly what they wanted.
She said: “As head of regulatory and compliance at Mile High Labs, I was continuously looking for a third-party lab that could test our products and those of our customers.
“And while there are good labs out there, I couldn’t find one that meets all of my specific requirements on data integrity and consistency of results, so Triverity Laboratories was founded to fill this gap in the industry.”
She added: “Data integrity is the basis of everything we do and is an integral part of our culture. We believe that data integrity should be a given, and with us it is.”
On her decision to locate in Northern Ireland, she added: “I’ve been coming here for a few years now and have fallen in love with the place, its people, its countryside, and its ‘can do’ attitude.
“The expertise and positive approach I need exists here, and I’m delighted at the opportunities which exist for us as a result of Northern Ireland’s unique position post-Brexit.
“Not only is Northern Ireland a natural springboard into EU markets, it also offers the calibre of technical expertise we require moving forward.
“We're delighted to be locating here and are confident it will help to position Belfast centre stage in the multi-million dollar global CBD industry.”
