A NEW 74-unit apartment development has been approved in Derry’s Waterside.

The proposal by Hillvalley Properties, approved by Derry City and Strabane District Council Planning Committee this week, will see the demolition of three vacant properties on Duke Street, close to the Craigavon Bridge.

The development will replace them with two new build connected apartment blocks. The plans also provide for the conversion of an existing building on Duke Street.

Industry monitor Construction Information Services Ireland put the estimated value of the project at around £5 million.

The first two buildings will each house 31 and 32 units respectively, most of them two-bed apartments. The third building will be refurbished into 11 apartments under Hillyvalley’s plans.
