ENTERTAINMENT company Airtastic is creating 60 jobs at a new 50,000 sq ft multi activity centre in Newtownabbey, due to open on Thursday May 27 if indicative lockdown reopening dates are approved.
The facility in the former Toys R Us building on Mill Road was first mooted in November 2019 as part of a £2.5 million expansion to the Airtastic leisure offerings, but was delayed due to Covid.
The centre includes an inflata park, amusement arcade, 12-lane bowling alley, 18-hole mini golf and a soft play area, as well as an American-style diner, and it will be one of the largest multi-activity leisure destinations in Ireland, with activities for all ages.
Sharyn Ingrey, area manager for Airtastic Entertainment Centres, which currently employs 300 staff across all its centres, said: “We're excited to open our new centre in Newtownabbey, which will feature five amazing activities all under one roof.
“It's been a long haul with a number of false starts, but I think we can be optimistic that this time will be it, and normality will follow shortly after.”
The Newtownabbey facility adds to four other Airtastic centres (https://air-tastic.com/) located in Bangor, Belfast, Craigavon and Cork, which provide entertainment for family fun, birthday parties, school or group trips or work functions.
Airtastic is owned and operated by SMS Platinum Group Ltd registered in Rathfriland, which also owns the Captain Green’s space adventure golf brand and the Funky Monkeys soft play centre brand.
