DIGITAL transformation specialist Telefónica Tech has expanded its security operations centre (SOC) in Belfast as part of an investment to increase its office space at Catalyst Inc by more than 5,000 sq ft.
The expansion will enable the company to accommodate its growing workforce and deliver its specialist cyber security services to a wider range of customers in the UK and Ireland.
It recently announced that Cancom UK&I, including the former Novosco operations in Belfast, will start operating under the Telefónica Tech UK&I brand after being acquired at the end of July for €398 million as part of the company's organic and inorganic growth plan to establish itself as a leader in digital transformation.
Telefónica Tech UK&I includes Cancom UK&I's 600-plus staff offering a portfolio of professional and managed services in advanced IT, cyber security and multi-cloud solutions.
Peter Russell, managing director of Telefónica Tech Ireland said: “It's business-critical that organisations across the public, private and voluntary sectors secure, protect and monitor their IT systems to prevent breaches that could have significant repercussions.
“We have invested significantly in the SOC including in capital infrastructure, in our technology, and in our people to ensure we have an offering that meets the requirements of organisations with complex and sophisticated cyber security needs, such as in the health sector where we have market-leading expertise.”
The expanded Belfast operations centre will provide services such as monitoring and analysis of customers’ IT systems to pre-empt and prevent security risks and attacks and will be based in a new purpose-built facility. The investment will also see the recruitment and training of additional cyber security personnel.
Martin Hess, CEO at Telefónica Tech UK&I said: “This significant investment in our SOC, including in capital infrastructure, in our technology, and in our people, is to ensure we have an offering that meets the requirements of organisations with complex and sophisticated cyber security needs, such as in the health sector where we have market-leading expertise.”
Jose Cerdán, chief executive of Telefónica Tech said: “With this move we corroborate our growth story and reinforce our capabilities in one of our key markets, the UK&I, with the aim of consolidating our leadership in cloud and digital services in Europe.
“Telefónica Tech UK&I is now a reality and is emerging as the perfect partner to accompany companies in their secure digital transformation.”
