ARMAGH bag company Madlug has become the north’s first lifestyle brand to be granted B Corp status.
The certification recognises a company’s entire social and environmental impact.
Set up in 2015 by youth worker Dave Linton, Madlug donates a bag to a child in care for every product it sells.
“We hope that by being a registered community interest company, social enterprise and now a certified B Corp demonstrates that our commitment is more than just words,” said the founder.
“We’re hugely proud of this achievement and thank you, our customers, for your support as always.”
Mr Linton said Madlug has made further changes since completing the B Corp application.
“For example, we have expanded our eco range to include more products made using recycled and responsible materials, we’ve taken steps to ensure that we are a real living wage employer, created policies around waste management and now recycle more of our waste than ever before,” he said.
Economy Minister Gordon Lyons said: “I would like to congratulate Madlug on receiving this important accreditation. It is always wonderful to see a Northern Ireland company receive the recognition it deserves for placing its commitment to the wider community at the heart of its business.”
