GROCERY and frozen food firm Iceland is partnering with Uber Eats to ensure customers can now get a home delivery in as little as 30 minutes.

Six stores in the Greater Belfast area and Derry are the first to launch Uber Eats for Northern Ireland customers, with plans to expand the service over the next year.

Uber Eats is primarily a food delivery platform that connects with restaurants and food via an app, allowing customers to order at the tap of a button.

But customers can now shop in the same way as they would when ordering from a restaurant via the Uber Eats app.

Once accepted by the app, the order is picked out in-store by Iceland before being collected and delivered by an Uber Eats courier in 30 minutes.

More than 3,000 food products as well as Iceland’s popular frozen foods including ranges like TGI Fridays, Greggs, Cathedral City, Harry Ramsden’s, Barratts and Slimming World are available for delivery from the retailer through Uber Eats.

Ron Metcalfe, managing director at Iceland Ireland, said: “We're thrilled to offer Northern Ireland customers a new rapid delivery service.

“The partnership with Uber Eats is a response to changing consumer shopping habits. The UK food delivery market rose 128 per cent in the last year and rapid grocery delivery was a big pandemic trend, which is here to stay.

“We believe busy households will appreciate the wide selection of affordable foods available as well as quick and easy access to their favourite brands on the Uber Eats App.”

The Uber Eats delivery is available from Belfast's Antrim Road, Andersonstown Roadt, Castle Street, Shankill Road and Glengormley stores in Belfast as well as Buncrana Road in Derry.
