BELFAST flexible workplace provider Urban HQ has unveiled plans for a £7 million office development in the city centre.

The proposal would see the company expand its Upper Queen Street operation at Eagle Star House with a new nine-storey building across the street.

Owned by Ballymena developer Ryan Walker, Urban HQ opened in Belfast city centre in September 2020.

Planning permission is already in place for a seven-storey building on the site next to PwC’s new Merchant Square headquarters.

But the developer has submitted a fresh proposal with a new design, which includes plans for private office suites, meeting rooms, a wellness studio, members’ lounge and events space.

Mr Walker, whose family business Magell last year bought the Fairhill Shopping Centre in Ballymena, said the new venture will be the only purpose built, grade A flexible workspace in Belfast.

He hopes it will be open by early 2024.

“This area of Belfast has undergone a significant transformation in recent years and we are proud to be playing a part in that story of regeneration,” he said.

“Once complete, the offering from Urban HQ will help attract the very best of companies to Belfast and we are very much looking forward to getting started with the next chapter of the Urban HQ story.”

Urban HQ’s managing director, Jamie McCoubrey, said the business has been encouraged by the level of interest over the past two years.

“We are delighted to be able to expand Urban HQ and bring our unique vision of the flexible workspace to even more businesses in Belfast,” he added.
