IRISH sportswear group O’Neills has confirmed it will open a new superstore in Omagh this summer.

The Strabane-based manufacturer, which is synonymous with the GAA, has confirmed it will take on a site next to Asda and McDonald's on the Dromore Road, creating 25 jobs.

The new store, which was vacated following the closure an 'Original Factory Shop' outlet on February 4, is expected to be open at the end of June.

O’Neills said a recruitment drive is already underway to fill a range of roles, including assistant managers, supervisors, and sales assistants.

It will mark O’Neills’ first dedicated shop in Tyrone’s county town, and bring its store portfolio to nine.

The company said the move involves “significant” investment on its part and underlines its commitment to ‘bricks and mortar retail’.

It comes two years after O’Neill invested around £1 million in its first store in Belfast city centre.

The 8,500 sq ft unit on Royal Avenue opened in a period where O’Neills increasingly expanded its product range beyond GAA gear, into 'athleisure' wear.

The company, which also operates a facility in Dublin, now employs around 600 people.

Commenting on the new Omagh store, O’Neill’s marketing manager, Enda Doherty said: “We are pleased to confirm this new investment in County Tyrone.

“Our new store in Omagh allows us to ensure that we offer our customers the products they require in a new, vibrant, and friendly store environment.

“This investment compliments our strong online presence via oneills.com and supports the confidence in our innovative brand and product range.”
