BANBRIDGE-based residential developer Lotus Homes has taken its first steps to going green with the launch of its Edenbrook sustainable housing scheme on the outskirts of the town.
Lotus has invested £50 million into the 180 eco-friendly houses and 24 apartments located on the Newry Road.
All the new build homes are fitted with 2KW solar PV panels from Start Solar, producing electricity from sunlight, even on cloudy days, potentially saving owners up to £600 a year on electricity costs.
And purchasers of Edenbrook homes also have the option to instal an electric car charging port in their driveway or future proof their homes with the necessary wiring in case they need it in a few years.
Paul O’Rourke, managing director at Lotus Homes, said: “At a time when climate change and the cost-of-living crisis are at the forefront of our minds, we wanted to create a housing solution which would not only help the environment but also help residents to save some money.
“Consumers are now looking for sustainable choices more than ever to ensure they are doing the most they can for the environment, and we want to help make these decisions easy.
“Edenbrook is a first for Lotus Homes in developing green homes, but certainly won’t be the last. We are currently putting similar environmental strategies into our other developments, including upcoming developments in Comber and Antrim. We hope this is the start of a sustainable future at Lotus Homes.”
Paul Carr, director of Newry-based construction firm Carr Brothers, said: “Having worked alongside Lotus Homes for the past nine years, it's great to see this positive advancement in their sustainability strategies.
“We are now seeing sustainable homes becoming more popular, with many purchasers looking for solar panels and energy efficient homes. We are thrilled to have been able to work with Lotus on Edenbrook and on many more eco-friendly houses to come.”
