BELFAST maritime company Artemis Technologies has set its sights on the luxury travel market with a new water taxi prototype.

The company, which is developing new zero-emission high-speed vessels using advanced electric foiling technology, said the new Artemis EF-12 Escape will be capable of carrying 12 passengers.

The new design was presented at a maritime industry conference in Barcelona.

Artemis has already developed a number of electric ‘flying’ seafaring craft.

The Belfast firm last year tested its workboat in Belfast Harbour and announced plans to launch a 24 metre zero emission ferry servicing Belfast and Bangor.

The EF-24 Passenger will be capable of carrying 150 people and could launch as soon as next year.

Artemis Technologies is now targeting the luxury travel market with the smaller EF-12.

Commercial director David Tyler said: "Our goal is to provide a sustainable, comfortable, and luxurious passenger experience for our customers, while also reducing their environmental impact."

The aerodynamic vessel boasts an autonomous flight control system. It is capable of a top speed of 30 knots has a range of 42 nautical miles.

“We believe that our new electric foiling water taxi will set a new standard for the water taxi industry," added Mr Tyler.

"It combines the latest technology with luxurious design, providing a unique and unforgettable experience for our customers."
