A BID to develop a new 60-bedroom hotel in Co Fermanagh has secured planning approval.

The £12 million redevelopment of the Carrybridge Lakeside Lodge and Marina has been proposed in a joint venture between Lisbellaw businessman Ronnie Crawford and the Cassidy Hospitality Group, which runs the existing 12-bed riverside establishment.

The Co Fermanagh hospitality group’s portfolio includes the Westville Hotel and The Crowes Nest in Enniskillen.

Mr Crawford, whose family owns the marina across the river from the existing lodge, runs a major timber operation in Lisbellaw, which supplied the wood for Cuilcagh Mountain Boardwalk and 14 riverside holiday lodges at the Killyhevlin Hotel.

The new project would see the existing lodge on River Erne cleared to make way for the new build hotel with a new bar, restaurant and function suite.

The existing launching pontoon and berthing jetties would also be replaced under the plans.

The site is located less than two miles from the 450 acre Belle Isle Estate, which was placed on the market over the summer with a £7.5m asking price.

The estate’s castle is a popular wedding venue, but only includes accommodation for up to 26 people.

It currently belongs to James Hamilton, the fifth Duke of Abercorn, whose family seat is the Baronscourt Estate, located near Newtownstewart in Co Tyrone.
