THE north will have its own apprenticeship week from next year.

The inaugural Northern Ireland apprenticeship week will take place between February 3 and February 7 2020.

The announcement has been welcomed by the north’s largest business group Federation of Small Businesses (FSB).

Roger Pollen, head of external affairs at FSB NI, said: “It is hugely welcome that next year, for the first time ever, Northern Ireland will have its own apprenticeship week to showcase and raise awareness of the value of apprenticeships to students, parents and to potential employers.

“FSB has been working closely with the Department for the Economy and other key stakeholders on this issue.

“We will playing our part both in advance of NI apprenticeship week and during it, to get the message out about the mutual benefit of apprenticeships, which enhance the development of the apprentice, as well as bringing great benefits to the host businesses.”
