A Cavan Sinn Féin TD has accused a republican organisation of "a crass PR stunt" after flags were erected close to the Fermanagh border.
Pauline Tully said Republican Sinn Féin had been placing flags across the county "during a time of national crisis".
Ms Tully said she had been contacted by constituents "who are angry that RSF flags and placards have been erected in places such as Cavan Town, Redhills and Ballyconnell".
The modern Republican Sinn Féin (RSF), founded by the late Ruairí Ó Brádaigh in opposition to a change in the policy of abstentionism to Leinster House.
In the last year it has actively been reorganising and recruiting in the Cavan and Fermanagh border area.
Ms Tully said: "The people responsible are trying to exaggerate the level of support for RSF, an organisation that has little or no credibility locally and nationally.
"Attempting to claim legitimacy in this way, at a time when most people are confined to their homes and understandably worried about the impact of Covid-19, shows how out of touch RSF are.
"They would better serve their community by staying at home and follow the safety protocols around social distancing instead of attempting a crass PR stunt in the middle of a national crisis.
"If RSF believe that have significant support then they should put that to the test at election time instead of participating in activity that angers and upsets people when they have much greater problems to contend with", the Cavan TD added.
A spokesperson for RSF said: "It's very important to note at at a time of 'national crisis' on the ground it's Sinn Féin RSF that are the ones on the ground helping the vulnerable in the community, delivering food packages and solid fuel as well as campaigning for the nurses and doctors, while Provisional SF Stormont are endorsing and implementing austerity".
