HOUL yer whist! Just when you thought it was safe to make a clatter, horror franchise A Quiet Place is set to get the silent treatment on consoles later this year with The Road Ahead.

With Jim from The Office and his clan tip-toeing around a post-apocalyptic America avoiding the sensitive lugholes of aliens, A Quiet Place’s low-key, low-volume tension proved silence truly is golden, even if it was a rather uncomfortable cinemagoing experience for the gassy.

Despite a plot riddled with more holes than a teabag, 2018′s creature feature was a breath of fresh air from the usual Blumhouse hauntings and made enough noise at the box office to warrant a sequel (complete with the old “humans are the real monsters” schtick) and this year’s prequel, Year One.

The publisher behind 2019′s World War Z and 2022′s Evil Dead, Saber Interactive are no strangers to cinematic suspense, and this week they shared 10 minutes of gameplay from the newly christened A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead.

Set in the same universe as the movies, the single-player, first-person horror is a combat-free stealth experience set three months after the initial invasion.

Playing as the pregnant Alex Taylor, players must soft-foot it past alien monsters, shimmying through vents and the like to avoid detection, though what was revealed this week seemed far from quiet, with Alex stomping around like she’s auditioning for Riverdance.

Saber showcased a sequence set on Day 119, where our heroine is seen escaping through the air ducts of an old building, hampered by her own air ducts being ravaged by asthma, which flares up with each physical exertion.

Managing resources is key, with batteries for Alex’s torch and inhalers to suck on in short supply.

“Capturing the frantic terror, unnerving atmosphere and gripping human drama that made the franchise famous, A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead is designed for fans of the films, horror games, and story-driven adventures alike”, say the publisher.

“With nothing more than your wits and the simple tools you can scavenge, you’ll have to overcome the many treacherous challenges and obstacles that lay ahead, all while trying to survive an ever-present threat of the unknown enemies. Just don’t make a sound…”

Though clearly made on a shoestring, it all looks the part, with slick cinematic visuals complemented by nerve-shredding sound design that revels in the guttural shriek of the aliens.

Basically Alien Isolation with an inhaler, we’ll all have a bit of ciúnas when A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead releases on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox later this year.
